With the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War taking place this year, Florida’s role in the war will be getting increased attention.On April 12, 1861, Confederate forces fired on Fort Sumter, S.C., launching the war. A slew of commemorative events are planned for this sesquicentennial year. Although Florida’s events are not specifically linked to that anniversary, several sites will host reenactments of the battles and wartime conditions of the war in Florida. Among them:
• Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park, Olustee: 35th annual reenactment of the Battle of Olustee, Florida’s biggest Civil War battle. More than 2,000 reenactors, both in battle and in encampments, will take part. Feb. 18-20.
