Founder’s Day Weekend July 18-19, 2009 in Ogdensburg, New York is a French and Indian War re-enactment and colonial trade fair.
Re-enactors from the US and Canada portray British, French and Native forces on the site of Fort de La Présentation (1749-59) on Lighthouse Point. The battles take place on land and water Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Saturday morning there is a bateau race featuring traditional boats.
Throughout the weekend there is 18th-century song and the music of fifes and drums. Saturday afternoon visitors will have the opportunity to learn a few country dances of the 1700s. Saturday evening, following an artillery exchange between Fort Wellington in Prescott, Ontario and re-enactors’ artillery on Lighthouse Point, there will be an evening of country dance at the Freight House Restaurant walking distance from the events on the point. The dance is free and open to all.
More than 20 sutlers will be selling their wares. There will also be a blacksmith, tinsmith, baker, lacemaker and other activities associated with our early history.
About 500 re-enactors have registered, including the crews of four boats.
Admission is $6 per adult, $5 for seniors and $2 for children older than two years of age.
Saturday morning there will be a rededication ceremony of the Abbé Picquet monument recently returned to Lighthouse Point. Abbé François Picquet founded Fort de La Présentation as a community for Catholicized American Indians loyal to France.
Founder’s Day Weekend, sponsored by the Fort La Présentation Association, will host New York State’s final 250th anniversary commemoration of the French and Indian War July17-18, 2010. The last battle of the war was fought at Fort Lévis three miles down river.

Founder’s Day Weekend, July 2010
The Fort La Présentation Association will host New York State’s final 250th anniversary commemoration of the French and Indian War in Ogdensburg, NY July 16, 17 & 18, 2010. Founder’s Day Weekend will draw re-enactors from across North America and from Europe to honor the participants in the last significant clash of French, British and Amerindian forces.
The defeat of French forces at the Battle of the Thousand Islands and the siege of Fort Lévis in August 1760 opened the upper St. Lawrence River to Montreal. In September 1760, Montreal capitulated, and the French and Indian War came to an end.
The event at historic Lighthouse Point, on the banks of the St. Lawrence River adjacent to the original Fort site, is open to the public. For a small entrance fee, visitors can view the battles, enjoy period entertainment and activities, and discover the French and Indian War.
Founder’s Day Weekend re-enactment and colonial trade fair is open to re-enactors, sutlers and heritage interpreters by invitation only. Preference will be given to individuals or groups that have attended Founder’s Day Weekend in previous years and accurately depict mid-18th century life, and Native society.
To request an invitation, if you have not previously attended, or to update your contact information go http://www.fortlapresentation.net, find the Founder’s Day button and click on Event Information.
